About The Event

You are invited to welcome the Chinese New Year—the Year of the Tiger—with Scottsdale Sister Cities during our monthly Happy Hour. In collaboration with the Musical Instrument Museum, our festivities offer a special presentation and performance by their Asia Curator in a lovely garden setting. Dr. Eddie Chia-Hao Hsu will introduce rich varieties of music and instruments associated with the New Year’s and Lantern Festivals. He promises a vivid interpretation of the lived experience of these celebrations.  Wine, soft drinks, water, light snacks provided.  This is an outdoor event, so please dress accordingly.

Presentor Dr. Eddie Chia-Hao Hsu is the Curator for Asia at the Musical Instrument Museum, where he oversees the museum’s Asian collection and related exhibits. He co-curated MIM’s special exhibition Treasures: Legendary Musical Instruments (2021). He holds a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Texas at Austin and received his bachelor’s degree in dizi flute performance from the Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan. Among his previous positions, he served as an adjunct faculty in Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University, where he taught the courses World Music and Chinese Music Ensemble.
