SSCA Uasin Gishu Committee, coordinated by Peter Ole-Sabay, are finishing preparation of shipment of a forty foot container of medical supplies and equipment to Uasin Gishu, Kenya.
This shipment of used medical equipment and unused medical consumables are from a very generous donation from Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. The equipment, and consumables are valued at well in excess of $100,000 and will be of tremendous importance to hospitals and clinics in Kenya. Mayo's donation will comprise the majority of the shipment, but medical consumables donated by Honor Health, books donated by SSCA members, and paint donated by Dunn-Edwards will also be included. Shipment costs are being shared by the Kenyan recipient entities and targeted donations to SSCA for the shipment. The container will be received and distributed by the Anglican Diocese of Eldoret to assure accurate, equitable distribution. Kenyan customs inspections and loading are taking place here in Scottsdale, and are expected to be completed, late February. A delegation from Scottsdale will travel to Uasin Gishu to supervise and assist in the contents’ distribution, in late May this year.
